In this week’s lesson, Paul continues his emphasis on Jesus’ deity and humanity, stressing his own willingness to suffer as Christ did so that the Colossians could experience the full impact of the good news regarding Jesus. For Paul, Jesus was the Son of God in human form, and this difficult to believe reality was the key to their ongoing transformation into His likeness.

God has readied his ambassadors to know their role, their assignment and their God for the battle on the eve of the plagues.

Paul warns against being led astray by persuasive arguments, empty philosophies, or religious rule-keeping that looks spiritual but lacks substance. In Christ, we have everything—we’ve been made alive, forgiven, and set free from the weight of the law.

God proves His rule over nature and over the false gods of Egypt in the plagues

This week’s lesson is focused on Christ’s work in the believer’s life which has an outward expression of God’s virtues toward others.

God spares His people from the final plague and frees them from the bondage of slavery.

Through the story of Gideon in Judges, God reveals his name “The Lord is Peace.” The Hebrew word for peace is shalom, which expresses the hope that the person is well in every sense of the word – whole, content, and in harmony with themselves and God. God is the source of peace, and we can experience the peace we long for in him.
