Scripture
Judges 6:11-27
Series
He Is
Through the story of Gideon in Judges, God reveals his name “The Lord is Peace.” The Hebrew word for peace is shalom, which expresses the hope that the person is well in every sense of the word – whole, content, and in harmony with themselves and God. God is the source of peace, and we can experience the peace we long for in him.

An Uncommon Life

Matthew 5:1-4
Justin Thornton
August 30, 2026
Early in his ministry, Jesus delivers the Sermon on the Mount to a crowd of people ranging from believers to skeptics, teaching them what it means to live an uncommon life. As he begins the sermon, Jesus first explains what it means to be blessed, not just a feeling of happiness, but to flourish with God. In the first few Beatitudes, he connects this idea of being blessed with being poor in spirit and mourning. Jesus promises that both will lead to an intimate relationship with God, where we can experience his presence.
