Care + Support

There is no past, present or future circumstance that can change God’s plan for your life. He is in the business of restoration and we simply get to be a witness to the hope and healing you’ll find in him.

Biblical Counseling

What we call Soul Care, is where the story of God’s redemption can meet with the specifics of your story. We were made in God’s image, but because of a broken world we have experiences that leave us hurting and stuck. In our Soul Care Ministry, we rely on God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to equip us with the wisdom and discernment to walk with you toward healing and restoration.

We Believe

The Gospel is for Everyone

For all the things you have walked through, there is no greater hope than the freedom and healing Jesus is offering. Nothing can earn his love and nothing can take it away. It is from that perspective and truth that we start any care or biblical counseling session.

Community is Your Advantage

We provide biblical counseling in the context of church community because God designed us to do life beside each other. Healing is a process and it’s not one you have to go through alone.

God is for You

In fact, he went as far as sending his Son so that you could be rescued and made new. Placing your trust in Jesus means nothing can separate you from him. There’s more to that truth, but for now, know God is for you.

Our Model

Care. Restore. Equip.

At your first appointment we’ll walk through different ways we can care for and encourage you during this season. Our goal is to walk alongside you as you continue on the path of restoration and are better equipped to encourage others on their journeys as well. To do this, we offer a variety of classes, resources and services.

Resources

Part of our mission at Soul Care is to be a resource to you. We have a library of content that covers multiple topics including marriage, conflict resolution and more!

One-on-One Appointments

There are seasons and circumstances when one-on-one counseling may be beneficial and necessary. Someone from our team would love to sit down with you and help evaluate what next steps would serve you best as you go through the biblical counseling process.

Whether you reach out for an appointment, join a group or contact us at the bottom of the page, reach out and we’ll get the conversation started.

Communicate

Someone from our team will reach out via email, phone or text to share what the next steps look like for your particular situation.

Care

We’ll help you take the best step toward the care you need.

Helping Those Who Need It

In some seasons our role is to receive care, and other times it’s to step into the needs of others and walk with them through seasons we’ve encountered previously. As we continue to grow our ministry for those in and outside our church family, we continually need leaders to pave the way for biblical counseling to happen. If you have a heart for others and want to begin leading a group or receiving training as a one-on-one counselor, these are your next steps.

The Equipping Process

Level One

Level 1 equipping is a collection of our intro-level offerings. We like to offer these as much as possible on many of Christ Chapel’s campuses. If you’re curious about the process of change or walking alongside someone else, this is a great place to start that journey of exploration!

Typical commitment for a Level 1 class:
  • Length: 4-6 class meetings
  • Reading: roughly 2-3 short chapters per week
  • Homework: optional
  • Cost: purchase your own book ($10-15)
“Head” Classes:

These opportunities are strategically designed to increase an understanding of what it is to walk alongside someone. How can we understand our focuses and move toward a view of God and of self that is more in line with the way Jesus modeled in the Scriptures?

  1. Caring for One Another
  2. Side By Side

“Heart” Classes:

These opportunities are aimed at your heart and how you are personally being changed by God. It’s so much more effective to help someone else when you’ve experienced true change by the power of the Holy Spirit.

  1. How People Change
  2. Real Change
  3. You Can Change
Level Two

Level 2 equipping is a collection of slightly more intermediate training opportunities. These are offered as much as possible when there’s a demand for them at your campus. If you’re still feeling out where God may be leading you in your journey of caring for others, this is a great step to continue learning!

Typical commitment for a Level 2 class:
  • Length: 8-12 class meetings
  • Reading: roughly 1-2 chapters per week
  • Homework: optional
Core Classes:
  1. Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands
  2. How People Change
Electives:
  1. Sinner, Sufferer, Saint
  2. re|engage leadership
  3. AVENEW Coaching
Equipped to Counsel

This is Christ Chapel’s gold standard for training biblical counseling worldview and methods. The purpose of this class is to enlist, equip and encourage followers of Jesus Christ to live and counsel the gospel of Christ and His Word to people living amidst the suffering and problems of life. *There is an application process to enroll in this course.

Commitment:
  • Length: 28 weeks (over 2 semesters) of 2-hour class meetings
  • Reading: 38 chapters (roughly 1-2 per week, with case studies)
  • Cost: $60 for textbook.
Level Three
Level 3 Electives:
  1. A Biblical Counseling Process is a great study for those considering serving as a counselor. In 3 parts, we discuss the entire scope of care for an individual. This is based on an immensely practical 15-chapter book by Lauren Whitman.
  2. Go through “Thrive.”
Level Four

Level 3 graduates can receive an invitation to continue their equipping through any of the following opportunities. Level 4 is typically reserved for those thinking about serving in an individual care role or vocational ministers wishing to expand their scope of care.

Intake Training

If individual care is the right next step for a person seeking help, Soul Care does an intake meeting with the potential counselee to determine some initial impressions regarding a probable scope of care; or if this person would benefit more from group care or another option. If you are invited to be an intake counselor, this training is what you need!

Ongoing Supervision + Training

Supervision: Throughout the year, the Soul Care pastoral staff leads monthly meetings with subsets of counselors who serve at Christ Chapel. These small group supervision meetings provide space for honest feedback on the counseling ministry that the lay counselors participate in. This is also a space for questions and guidance on particular cases (counselees’ identities are kept private). These are done in group so that counselor community feedback is a part of the oversight, but private coaching is offered as well.

Ongoing Training: Soul Care has a training manual written by Dr. Greg Cook for continually sharpening the skills of our counselors. Training from this material is brought into the supervision meetings, in addition to role plays and case studies that are intentionally designed to continue to build upon the biblical counseling foundations that have been set in previous equipping courses.

Level Five

Beyond receiving routine supervision and training, Level 5 equipping is reserved for those who are hungry for a more advanced pathway toward learning biblical counseling. A typical candidate for Level 5 may be:

  • Those in a topically relevant masters-level degree program
  • A practicum student fulfilling degree program requirements
  • Those seeking parachurch certification (like ABC)
Special Topics:

Christ Chapel Soul Care is well-networked with providers and training institutions that offer professional certification, advanced training and courses or conferences to further develop biblical counselors in the metroplex. When you are in the equipping “pipeline” with us, we will make these available as mutual interest and availability arises. Some of the parachurch ministries we are currently in-network with focus on the following specialties:

  • Marriage
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Trauma Care

Serving Opportunities

Individual Care

To provide individual care is a high calling, and we don’t take it lightly. Here is an outline of all the ways you can grow into the service opportunity of caring for those seeking help through Soul Care:

Observer

An observer is allowed to witness counseling sessions for educational purposes and to help determine the next steps for serving. The following requirements must be met in order to observe a session:

  1. One Level 1 “head” class
  2. One Level 1 “heart” class
  3. One Level 2 “core” class
  4. Enroll in (or have completed) one Level 3 class
  5. Fill out the Soul Care Leadership Application
  6. Fill out the Christ Chapel Volunteer Application
Intake Counselor

If individual care is the right next step for a person seeking help, Soul Care does an intake meeting with the potential counselee to determine some initial impressions regarding a probable scope of care. Intake Counselors fulfill an important role in the individual care process. The following requirements must be met before a candidate can be considered for an Intake Counselor role:

  1. All of the requirements for an Observer
  2. Completed the Level 3 course “Equipped to Counsel”
  3. Approval and assignment from the Soul Care staff
Lay Counselor

Providing individual care is a privilege, so we require a significant amount of preparation for people wishing to serve in this way.

  1. All of the requirements of an Intake Counselor
  2. Completed 10 or more observations (at least 5 of them in-person)
  3. Start Level 4 supervision and training meetings
  4. Continued approval and assignment from the Soul Care staff
Group Care
We love groups!

We believe people who have been changed by Jesus in groups are the best at helping others in groups. Here are the requirements for each level of leadership within our Group Care Ministry:

Apprentice Leader
  1. Participate in a Soul Care group
  2. Be recommended for leadership
  3. Fill out the Soul Care Leadership Application
  4. Go through Group Leader Training
Group Leader

Serve as an Apprentice Leader.
