Though it’s the only book in the Bible that never mentions God, Esther conveys events with such perfect literary symmetry that a profound theological point is made: God’s providence is at work in everything on behalf of his people.
David is old and his days on earth are numbered. A shadow of the man he used to be, he remains firmly dedicated to Yahweh. But there will be one last test for David to face before he leaves this life behind.
This is a tough lesson because it starts well but ends poorly. David is nearing the end of his illustrious life, and while he has learned many lessons along the way, he seems to take his eye off the objective as he nears the finish line.
