Out of an overflow of their relationship with Jesus, the Colossian Christians were to grow in Christlikeness as they deeply and practically put off sin and put on godliness.

Jehovah-M’Keddesh (sometimes written as Yahweh-M’Kaddesh) translates to “The Lord Who Sanctifies” or “The Lord Who Makes Holy.” This name reflects God’s role in sanctifying or setting apart His people for holiness and service. It emphasizes God’s active role in purifying and consecrating His followers to live according to His will.

The first step in making disciples is to pray that the Lord would show you a believer you could walk with, ask them to join you in following Jesus, then engage them in growing together.

Though false teachers sought to mislead the Colossians, Paul further emphasizes the sufficiency of Jesus and how believers are complete in Christ.

The name Jehovah-Nissi is used in Exodus 17:15 and is translated as “The Lord is My Banner.” This name reveals a significant aspect of God’s character and His role as a protector and source of victory for His people.

We pause our study in Exodus, where the Hebrews are living in a foreign land, to focus on how we live the same way through our Be/Make/Reach initiative. To MAKE disciples is mandated by Jesus himself, and he modeled it in the Gospels as he taught the Twelve how to follow him. We too must strive to encourage and help one another as believers as disciples in our own day.

Paul exemplifies the heart and mission of God’s servant as he faithfully mentors and ministers to the church, even through his own suffering.
