Minister to Kids – South Campus

I grew up in a Christian home in the Carrollton, Texas area and came to know the Lord when I was six years old. He met me in “big church” as the little kids called it. I had been attending all the children’s ministry events —Vacation Bible School, Sunday school, Wednesday night events, so I had been hearing conversations about who Jesus is and that He died for our sins — but I really believe the Holy Spirit met me in the pews of that Baptist church and grabbed a hold of my six-year-old heart that morning, April 1, 2001. As we grow older, we learn more of what it means to be a follower of Jesus, but this is why I love working with kids: the moments of getting to see when lightbulbs go off in little six-year-old minds of “Oh, this is who Jesus is” and seeing their childlike faith. I believe that it can happen because that’s my story.
I went to Dallas Baptist University originally thinking I would become a teacher, but in my junior year God called me to fulltime ministry of working in the church with families and children, most especially individuals and families with special needs. I knew without a doubt that I wanted to be in the local church working with families and kids, so I changed my major to Christian Studies, then got my master’s at DBU in Children’s Ministry with a Special Needs Ministry interest. Shortly after, God called me to a church in College Station and I served as the Special Needs Director for three and a half years. That’s when I ended up here at Christ Chapel, through a connection of my mentor. God clearly said this was next for me and I’m so excited to be a part of what God is doing here. I’m so glad I followed the Lord’s leading to change my major at DBU because I feel like if I had not been obedient in that step, all the other steps of obedience wouldn’t have happened. Truly, in my life I’ve realized that it’s so important to listen to God’s leading. When He asks us to obey, we have to because blessings always come on the other side obedience.
Away from work I love to bake, go on walks, cook, watch Hallmark movies and have deep conversations with my friends. Christmastime is my favorite season and I’m big into musicals. Above all, I love spending time with people. I’m a people person and, really, don’t know a stranger. You’ll always see me with a smile on my face, so stop me and say hi when you do!
