Parent FAQ:
When are we leaving and returning?
We will be leaving on the evening of June 1st and returning on the evening of June 5th. We will be departing from the church, and heading to our destination overnight, with plans to arrive in Panama City Beach before lunch on June 2nd. On June 5th, we will depart early in the morning, and aim to be back home before 9:00PM that evening.
How are we getting there?
We will be taking charter busses through a bus company that we’ve used in the past. We will be taking the same busses there and back. Drive time is approximately 12 hours each way, with no time change, and we will allot time for rest stops, bathroom breaks, and food.
Where will we be staying?
We will be staying at Laguna Beach Christian Retreat Center. They are a Christ-centered, family owned and operated retreat center located on the beach front in PCB. They’ve got a great facility that fits our needs well, including adequate rooms and meeting spaces for everyone, food options, and plenty of recreational activities at our leisure. We’re excited to be bringing our program to a facility that has so much to offer, and if you’d like to check it out for yourself, you can take a look at their website HERE!
What will we be doing?
HSM will be putting on a stellar beach trip program like we always do. We center our trips around an engaging program that is staff-led, and creates intentional spaces for students to have personal time in the word each morning, live worship, Biblical teaching, and time to reflect on what they’ve learned with their small groups.
We have a schedule that includes free-time for students to enjoy the beach with their friends, structured games and activities for small groups to participate in together (Including Paddle boarding, Kayaking, Beach Games, Pier fishing, Town outing, Bike Riding etc), and a theme night ending in a roller disco! We will have more detailed information coming to you regarding programming as our trip gets closer.
Are there any extra costs?
We are stopping for breakfast on the way to Florida, and then returning there will be lunch and dinner. There will also be one stop on the way back for snacks. Â At a minimum, $50 should cover 3 meals at fast food places and snacks. The facility we are staying at has a snack shop with ice cream, merchandise, and souvenirs for anyone interested. Additionally, we are currently in the process of contracting extra activity options for people who may be interested in them at an additional cost (Paddle boarding, kayaking, pier fishing, town shopping etc.). We will continue to communicate these options as the trip draws nearer.
What are the sleeping arrangements?
Sleeping arrangements will all be made with regard to the student-safe policies and procedures that we as a church uphold at all of our programming and events. We’re fortunate to be working with a facility that values these things, and is designed to accommodate our specific needs. Students will be in rooms, separated by small group and gender, with a minimum of 2 screened and vetted leaders per cabin who have been through our ministry and student-safe training program. At this point, we do not have specific cabin assignments out yet, as registration is still open, but we do our best to ensure that students are placed with at least one friend that they requested.
What about medical needs, food allergies, and safety concerns?
Safety is our highest priority when it comes to taking students on large trips, and we as a church staff will do everything in our power to make sure that every student is placed in an environment where their safety is being monitored constantly. We will be bringing 2 full time nurses on our trip to handle any emergency medical needs, monitor food allergies, and distribute all prescription medications. We will also be bringing 2 full time care team members to be constantly monitoring the physical safety of our group while we are at the beach.
